Popcorn Sales

Please consider participating in the Atlanta Area Council popcorn sale this year. Many units use popcorn sales as their primary fund raising mechanism. Selling popcorn can be quite profitable for the unit, and provides important financial support for the Council. Generally speaking, you need to select a Popcorn Kernel for your unit who will attend a summer meeting where information about Popcorn sales will be distributed. Your unit will obtain a bonus (a higher percentage of sales returned to your unit) if you have someone attend this meeting. Popcorn is sold via "Show and Sell" (obtaining actual product and selling it) and by "Take Orders" (taking an order for popcorn, receiving payment, then delivering the product later). My Packs have found obtaining some popcorn for Show and Sell really enhances the Take Order process, so I think you should try to do both. Some stores like Target and Wal-Mart allow your unit to set up tables outside their stores. Please line this up with the manager of the store before you set up! My Pack was able to raise enough money to purchase a Pinewood Derby track this year. In previous years we have taken nice trips paid for by Popcorn sales. The boys also win prizes for various levels of sales. Scouting is a "pay your own way" organization. Your Cubs will be very proud that their efforts in selling popcorn resulted in a tangible reward for their Pack. Look into it! I think you will find that Popcorn sales will be worth your time and effort.
