The Whittling Chip can be earned by Bear Scouts and is very useful as a teaching tool for knife safety. Consider having your Cubs earn this award at the same time as they work on the soap carving activity covered in the Bear book. Make sure your Cubs know that they are not allowed to carry a knife to a Cub Scout function without earning the Whittling Chip. Also, if your Pack meets at a school, please remember that some schools prohibit students from bringing knives to school.
